The Coromandel in a single day is ambitious but it works if somebody else is driving and the tides have been checked in advance. Both of those are my job.
It is a long day and there is real walking in it. If that is not what you want, A Day North is the gentler version of the same idea.
How the day runs
- 7:30amPick up, and over the Hauraki Plains
- 10:00Cathedral Cove, at the right state of the tide
- 12:30Lunch at Hahei
- 2:00Hot Water Beach, if low tide falls right
- 4:30The Karangahake Gorge on the way south
- 6:30Back at your door
Pickup. Your hotel, central Auckland or the North Shore. This is a long day, so we start early.
Weather. The Cove walk is exposed. In heavy rain we swap it for the gorge and the Thames coast.
